Yash Raj needs a hit, badly!

It seems that the boat is sinking for the Yash Raj production house. It is because the latest film to be produced by this production house, ‘Tashan’ is going nowhere and has joined the list of flop films, which are being constantly produced by Yash Raj of late. The movie is directed by Vijay Krishna Acharya and stars some big film stars of Bollywood like Akshay Kumar, Siaf Ali Khan, Anil Kapoor and Kareena Kapoor. The hyped movie did not release in most of the multiplexes of the country over some dispute of revenue sharing between the production house and multiplex owners. But a flop film is nothing new for the Yash Raj banner.

Last year too it had not been a good year for the production house. The releases of last year from the Yash Raj banner were ‘Jhoom Barabar Jhoom’, ‘Ta Ra Rum Pum’ , ‘Laaga Chunari Mein Daag’ and ‘Chak De India’. Of these four major releases of 2007, only ‘Chak De India’ proved to a box office success, it was one of the top grosser of the year and is declared a blockbuster. The multi-starrer movie ‘Tashan’ managed to open with 70 to 80 in Mumbai. The film did not meet the expectations of both the audiences and the film critics. The Yash Raj production is the third highest spender after Reliance Entertainment and Indian Films. This year the production house commonly known as YRF has five films in different genres like thriller, comedy, romance and animation. And the most awaited release would be ‘Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi’ starring super star Shah Rukh Khan.
